|Satie for you
Born on May 17, 1866, Erik Satie would have turned 142 this year.
He was the quiet master of small format, of fragments, of variability.
Controversial in his lifetime, Satie experts and lovers only realized the entire complexity and genius of his work, consisting of scores, texts, drawings and letters - after his death. New works appeared one after the next, but it was always initially Satie’s music that promoted his popularity. Unlike his texts, his piano pieces experienced an increasing comeback since the early 1920’s.
In the last few years, pieces that inspired Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, John Cage, Brian Eno or Morton Feldman just to name a few, have been used as “nameless” background music for innumerable film sequences in documentaries and feature films. SATIESFACTION however places its emphasis elsewhere, and focuses on: the text.
